Transcendent Kingdom is a deeply moving novel about Gifty, a Ghanaian American PhD candidate at Stanford who turns to science to unlock the mystery of her family’s loss. While studying reward seeking behavior in mice, Gifty finds herself hungering for her childhood faith and grappling with the evangelical church in which she was raised, whose promise of salvation remains as tantalizing as it is elusive. Yaa Gyasi is the author of the acclaimed novel Homegoing, a New York Times Notable Book that was lauded as "an inspiration" by Ta-Nehisi Coates and "spectacular" by Zadie Smith.

Moderator Akwete Tyehimba is the owner of the Pan-African Connection Bookstore, Art Gallery, and Resource Center and the recipient of the Dallas Peace and Justice Center Lifetime Achievement Award.

This event is presented in promotional partnership with the Dock Bookshop and Pan-African Connection Bookstore, Art Gallery and Resource Center.
